Nikon 7432 Monarch 10X42mm ATB July 20, 2010 atgio A wonderful set of binoculars that brings things out in the distance to life. Thanks again to Nikon for making amazing optics. Great binoculars for a great price. You won't be disappointed.
good for the dough May 29, 2010 Doris P. Fell I've had these binos for about a month and they have held up to some pretty rugged conditions. I'm a research assistant and I work in some wet, sandy, muddy, places. I just toss these things in my backpack or on the boat, and there no worse for the abuse. I wish the eye caps stayed on better, but that's my only real complaint. I guess if you were real anal about it, you could keep them in the case.. but who does that? I know an field ornithologist tech that owns these and he treats his about as good as i treat mine. He's had his for longer, so seems like a good deal.
A great pair of binoculars for nature study at a reasonable price. May 10, 2010 Buck (Staten Island, New York USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
After weighing the reviews both pro and con on this site and others I recently purchased a pair of these binoculars, primarily for use in birding. After using them for several months I must say that I am extremely pleased with them. The quality of the image is excellent,... bright, sharp and clear with no color fringing whatsoever. They're lighter and easier to hold than my old pair of 7x 50 Porro prism binoculars. The focusing control is very precise and, although it works in the opposite direction of my old pair, it didn't take me long to get used to it. The focus setting also stays in place very well. Even with the binoculars moving against my chest for some time they are still in focus when I bring them to my eyes again. I was also astonished to see how close I could focus with these binoculars. If I'm sitting in a chair I can just about focus on my knees. Amazing! This is a very important attribute when using the binoculars for general nature study. You can focus on small items such as flowers, leaves, etc., that you cannot reach because of obstructions, but that are too close to focus on with many other binoculars, including my old pair. The twist up eye cups are extremely convenient. I seem to have eyebrows that tend to smudge the ocular lenses of binoculars, but when I twist up the eye cups to their full extent I still have an excellent view while keeping my eyebrows off of the glass. The strap is reasonably sturdy and quite comfortable. The tethered lens caps on the objectives are convenient but the lens cap for the oculars is a bit insecure.
I was able to buy these binoculars from Amazon at a very good price. After a $[...] rebate the price was only $[...]. I couldn't resist trying them at that price and I'm very happy that I did.
The reason I started to look at these was because my granddaughter had asked my advice on the purchase of the pair of binoculars that she would use during a six-month field trip to a research station in the Amazon Rain Forest of Peru to study primates. After doing the research I suggested these to her and then decided to buy a pair for myself as well. She has just returned from the Rain Forest and told me that the binoculars were great. She used them constantly for the past six months 10 to 12 hours a day in sweltering conditions, often in a tropical deluge. She always had a good view and the binoculars never fogged, while other types used by some of the other researchers often did. This is a good indication of their durability even in adverse circumstances.
Overall I would rate this model as an excellent choice for anyone seeking a pair of binoculars for nature study of any sort. Even without the rebate, which I think is no longer available, they offer a lot of value for the money.
Monarch ATB April 24, 2010 Ronald Ault (Southern Maryland) I am a varmint(groundhog) hunter. My binoculars are used constantly during a day afield. Glass quality is important, focus and ergonomics are critical, light weight is important, durability is critical, and the weatherproofing is critical as a summer rain is hard to predict- my Nikon's have all these requirements in spades. One good thing I have noticed is I don't have eye strain nor headhaches after a long day of hunting. The Monarch ATB's are the very best binoculars I have ever owned. The lens covers are junk, but who cares? I threw away all of my other binoculars lens cover, too. I got a really good deal on mine- Nikon is coming out with a new lens coating system called die-electric on the Monarch line, so this model is the original #7432 (but brand new). My primary use of binoculars is looking at the edges of crop fields; into the hedgerows and shadows of overgrown vegetation where small brown furry things (groundhogs) are hiding several hundred yards away- that requires the high contrast resolution of high quality glass with premium coatings that my Monarch ATBs have makes it easy to distinguish the groundhogs much better than the lessor quality binoculars I have used.
Nikon 7432 Monarchs Are Great April 21, 2010 Jen (Berea, KY United States) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
We purchased the 7430 Monarchs (8x42s) last fall and really liked them, but we needed one more pair and thought we'd try the 10x42s (especially because the price was under $200). These provide just as clear a picture, and having the 8x42s for scanning an area and the 10x42s for more magnified vision is pretty cool. I can locate a bird much more easily using the 8x42s, but magnifying the bird is great with these 10x42s. The only bad thing about these binoculars is that one lens cap will not stay shut; it pops off every time I close it. (The lens caps work fine on the 7430s.) This is pretty annoying, but the advantages far outweigh this one problem.
There are newer versions of both the 7430 and 7432 now, though I'm not sure how they could be improved greatly.
